Brian Waters and Neil Wagner obtained a unanimous defense verdict on behalf of a hospital system and emergency medicine physician in Thurston County Superior Court.  The case involved allegations that the defendants were negligent in working up a patient with potential acute coronary syndrome in the emergency department.  Plaintiff claimed that this led to a heart attack and severe heart failure more than a week later, and they asked the jury to award millions of dollars.  The defendants denied these claims, asserting that the standard of care was met and that the plaintiff did not have acute coronary syndrome in their emergency department.  Following a three-week trial, the jury returned a unanimous defense verdict within minutes, finding that the standard of care was met.
