Michele Atkins and Joe Gardner recently obtained a unanimous defense verdict on behalf of an emergency medicine physician following a three-week jury trial in Whatcom County Superior Court.  The case involved an allegation that the emergency medicine physician, as well as emergency department nursing staff, failed to timely diagnose and treat an acute ischemic stroke.  The defendants denied that the patient suffered a stroke, and they contended that the care provided to the patient was reasonable and appropriate.  The jury returned a unanimous defense verdict for all defendants, finding that all the healthcare providers met the standard of care.  Plaintiffs asked the jury for $24 million.
